For Alexis Dominguez, 2013 marked a year of many changes. “It was the year of my wedding, moving to Temecula, and our lives changing in so many beautiful ways.” Dominguez said.

Alexis Dominguez, a native of Nogales, Arizona, has channeled her training from the Art Institute in Tucson, Arizona into creating works of mixed media recycled art. “My husband, Juan, is so positive every day, he inspires me, and in turn, I want to generate art that inspires him, and the world around us.”

Indeed, her graphic computer artwork, as well as physical mixed media and recycled pieces truly show her view of the world. Including frustration when family and friends may not have always understood her choices.

Now, this military wife and caregiver to husband, military veteran Juan Dominguez, Alexis has come into her own as an artist, helping others by creating beauty out of the rubble of the world. “We’ve had a rare and beautiful opportunity to meet so many people this year, to attend TEDTalks, and meet with people like Gary Sinise, and the motivation behind those is everything to us.”

What Dominguez calls “her mess” is a truly unique studio of turquoise blue, calming and sizzling with artistic energy. Her home welcomes with warm, morning light, and the walls are charged with bright, colorful displays each one with message and personal meaning.

Completely at peace in her surroundings of well organized materials, and handy computer, as well as Martha Stewart worthy die-cutting stencils, Alexis Dominguez put her Pinterest savvy to good use for the unique and special touches from her own wedding, as well as branched toward creating wedding items for custom orders.

“My passion is creating mixed media artwork from recycled materials. I save everything, and use Pinterest to help store my collections of odd objects in various ways.” Dominguez showed Temecula Grapevine around her artist studio in her Temecula home, as well as the unique artworks, mementos, and cherished items from her wedding, and first year of marriage.

“I’m not one to buy cards, or presents. I feel the hand crafted presents, and cards carry so much more meaning.” Dominguez said. Now, working on opening her own online store, her unique Elexeye brand started from a school joke with a fellow student. “Two Alexis’s turned into the plural “Alexi” which I spun this way, with the unique spelling.”

“I constructed a complete paper, musical note wedding for a couple, who used handcrafted bouquets, boutonnieres, table numbers, signs, and so much more. It was truly breathtaking. I love putting the special touches on parties and life to help others feel good, and spread joy.”

To Alexis Dominguez, some of the most treasured works of art are those personal mementos she has made for her husband, and their journey. “I love gifts from the heart, and it is so much more special when you can make something to blow someone’s mind, rather than just buy something.”

“I love Andy Warhol. For me, this quote says it all: The best thing about a picture is that it never changes even when the people in it do.” With Andy Warhol as her muse, Alexis Dominguez can often be found working to find the beauty within an ordinary piece of cardboard, stringing beads, or weaving intricate patterns in home-made hand crafted looms.

Dominguez finds time to create and save touches, using projects she’s found on Pinterest, or Instagram to inspire her artwork, and custom crafting.

Currently, Alexis Dominguez is creating a series of artwork entitled “Five Inspiring People,” based upon the amazing year that she’s had thus far. “Each person will be reflected in the artwork, and of course, the number one is my husband, Juan, who inspires me each and every day.”

The only thing this article didn’t cover was how beautiful you are on the inside too. The art you create is so original, beautiful & inspirational. Thank you Alexis for sharing your story!
