A robbery at a Jefferson Avenue business began at gunpoint, and ended with a freeway car chase and subsequent crash on the morning of April 2, 2014.
“At approximately 9:20 a.m., a male adult entered a business in the 28000 block of Jefferson Avenue,” stated Sergeant Marc Cloutier of the Temecula Police Department. “The male removed a black handgun from his waist and approached several employees and demanded money. Several employees complied and handed the armed male cash and at least one wallet.”
According to the report filed, the suspect fled the business in a black, late-model vehicle. “A description of the suspect’s vehicle and clothing was quickly broadcast-ed to responding officers.” Cloutier said, “A Temecula Police Department Motor Enforcement Officer saw the vehicle and matching suspect and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. The suspect driver fled south onto the I-15 Freeway. The driver attempted to exit the next off ramp, lost control of his vehicle and crashed, ejecting himself in the process.”
As a result of the collision, and subsequent ejection, the suspect suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of those injuries. However the identity of the suspect remains undisclosed, due to the ongoing investigation of the robbery.
“Items taken during the robbery were located in the suspect’s vehicle.” Cloutier said. “The suspect will remain in the custody of the Temecula Police Department until his recovery will allow booking.”
