While necessity may be the mother of invention, want is often the mother of innovation. True, at least, in the case of local business owner, Adam Evans. After one year of business, Evans invites all to celebrate Rock Fitness’s One Year Anniversary, Saturday, March 1, 2014, by offering free climbing from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Free pizza will be served starting at noon and giveaways will be happening throughout the day.
As for how such an innovative gym started, Evans owes it to three years of shuttling between three types of gyms – one each for fitness, volleyball league and rock climbing. Evans had simply had enough of the juggle, not to mention three times the membership dues.
“I loved all of my activities, but was totally burnt out on running all over town to enjoy them,” said Evans
His solution? Take all the good from each gym and put it under one roof. And thus, Rock Fitness was born.
“We originally had our eye on 10-thousand square feet, but – thankfully – ended up in a 20-thousand square foot space in Wildomar,” explained Evans.
Rock Fitness quickly put good use to all that space. One end of the gym is entirely dedicated to rock climbing, complete with auto and manual belay devices and constantly changing lead routes.
“Rock climbing is my passion, but I wanted more,” said Evans. He proceeded to install a full basketball court, a complete circuit of fitness equipment and weights, as well as Cageball in the main area of the gym.
Evans then decided to partner with Total Fit 180 owners, Katie Flesher and April Cruz, who offer a complete line up of fitness classes – Boot Camp, Spin, Fit10, Yoga, Cardio Kickbox – the works.
“It’s virtually unheard of to offer all these different options under one roof,” said Evans.
Evans’ clients could not be happier. The industry reports that four out of five gym memberships go unused. Not so at Rock Fitness.
“Our client base is so diverse – ages 3 to 85, all ability levels – because there is something for everyone,” said Evans.
Always the adventurer, Evans has even bigger plans for the space.
“We just started an MMA Fight Lab and the classes are filling up quickly,” said Evans, noting that an outdoor MMA ring is in the works.
Fighting not your thing? No worries. Rock Fitness offers the lighter “sport” of Bubble Soccer on Sundays from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
With memberships on the rise, Evans’ innovative gym style is clearly a winner.
