Fallbrook, CA—A free Art Workshop for children will be hosted Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 2 -4 p.m. at the Fallbrook Library.
Mike Miller, award-winning children’s book author and illustrator of the popular “Tomas the Tortoise” adventure series, will lead a program that includes music, drawing, book reading and puppetry for school age children 5 – 12 years old.
The art workshop is presented by the Fallbrook Library as part of the current gallery show “Every Picture Tells A Story,” featuring the original art from four area children’s book illustrators November 12 – January 6, 2014.
Local artists participating in the show include Kathi McCord, Paul Brewer, Annika M. Nelson, and Mike Miller.
Miller will share his creative talents with the children, and will entertain them with “Tomas the Tortoise” music and a puppet created especially for his shows for elementary school age kids. “Play in the Clouds,” one of the titles in Miller’s Tomas the Tortoise series, was selected to be featured in the twelfth Annual Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington DC in 2012. The illustrated series featuring a desert tortoise helps children explore the diverse terrain, inhabitants and environments of the desert.
Born and raised in Southern California, Miller’s art career began at Walt Disney Studios where he worked on animated features including Sleeping Beauty
and 101 Dalmations. He moved to Las Vegas in 1962 and spent 50 years as an award-winning advertising agency owner, illustrator and author of children’s books and coloring books.
Upon retirement in 2011, he relocated to Murrieta and is now active in the Temecula Valley Art League, Friday Plein Air Painter’s Group, and teaching landscape painting at the Murrieta Senior Center. Earlier this year, Miller won first place in the 2013 Temecula Arts Festival Plein Air art contest.
