Traffic nightmares for commuters and area drivers saw brake lights bunching along Rancho California Road and Temecula Parkway Wednesday, October 30, 2013 due to a major waterline break, as reported by the City of Temecula and Rancho California Water District (RCWD). The repair work is expected to be completed by Thursday night, October 31, 2013.
During the repair work, motorists traveling on Temecula Parkway between Margarita Road and Interstate 15 will experience significant delays. Drivers would be best advised to avoid repair work area and use alternate routes such as:
Rancho California Road and Margarita Road accesses were no help, with a planned Riverside County Sheriff’s DUI/Drivers’ License checkpoint.
“A major waterline break (18” diameter) at the intersection of Temecula Parkway and La Paz Street.” Stated Amer Attar, Acting City Engineer, in a press release. “The break caused a major sink hole to develop on the westbound traffic lanes. The waterline break also caused significant damage to the pavement of all westbound traffic lanes that extended several hundred feet on Temecula Parkway east of La Paz.”
City staff responded with emergency traffic control measures, immediately. In addition, RCWD deployed their field crews to begin the repair.
The City is assisting RCWD with traffic control measures including the deployment of officers from the Temecula Police Department.
