Two words, Temecula. Pumpkin Patch. It was enough to send these kids into a frenzy. Temecula Grapevine drove out to Peltzer Farms for an advanced preview of what the farm is looking like, fall of 2013. What we found was a feast for the eyes and fall-color starved souls.
What we learned, is even though fall fun is where it’s at at Peltzer, with pumpkin patch, train, corn maze, panning for gems, pony rides, and petting zoos, there is much more going on at Peltzer farms than meets the eye.
Fall is not really in the air yet in Southern California. Let’s be honest. But the pumpkins are ripe and ready, the pigs are rearing to race, and farmer Charlie and wife Carrie Peltzer are ready to greet Temecula with Peltzer Farms traditional fanfare and fun. Driving up, you’ll see that Farmer Charlie has his vineyard planted, and the harvest is ripe on the vine. Temecula anxiously awaits the wine we know will be amazing, both in tasting room charm, thanks to designer and rustic charm loving Carrie Peltzer, and the Peltzer’s long line of farming history in Southern California.
The corn maze, as always, is quite the draw, which will be big this year, one of the free activities available to all who enter. Another free activity at Peltzer farms, is not just for the kids. Make sure to time your visit to watch the pig races. With fun names like “Taylor Swine Swift,” “Just-in-Time-for-Bacon Beber,” and “Brad Pigg” — it’s hard to choose just one favorite. Feel free to root for the little piggies as they scream around the track in this free family activity in Temecula. Cheering is encouraged. Betting? Don’t ask, don’t tell.
The train will be running, starting Saturday, and the depot will be ready for lining up. “Right now, the pumpkins are waiting to be spread out in the patch.” Said Charlie Peltzer. “Look around and see the new signs, picture stands, and touches we’ve added through the year.”
You’ll also notice the pony rides, and petting zoo, filled with sheep, pygmy goats, and strutting rooster. Rustic hand wash stations always encouraged after visiting the livestock. “The petting zoo is still a favorite. We’re looking forward to school groups and boy and girl scout troop visits during our fall festival.” Peltzer said.
As always, the tractors and trucks are a draw for the kids, a rustic playground, but parents are reminded to keep the kiddos safe. Picnic tables will be set up by the food stand, and this is a great place for a fall birthday party, schedule ahead of time for your group.
Things to watch for this year? the wedding garden. Pinterest worthy in every way, this is the place to set your rustic wedding. From wildflowers blooming with abandon to the windmill catching the breeze with a slow turn, Carrie Peltzer has used her design sense to create a picturesque paradise for bridal parties in Temecula Wine Country. Moms, brides-to-be, and romantics will enjoy strolling this romantic setting in the heart of Peltzer Farms. With bottle-curtains and climbing vines, this is a photo-worthy spot.
Temecula Grapevine encourages you to send pictures of your little one by the “How Tall This Fall” sign… see how much your children have grown over the years! Here’s one of our favorites… and no, she’s not quite
