Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice presented by Temecula’s Shakespeare in the Vines at Briar Rose Winery

Shakespeare in the Vines of Temecula, California celebrates the 200th Anniversary of the Jane Austen book, “Pride and Prejudice,” adapted for the stage by Jon Jory.

But what makes this play so special, and why is Briar Rose Winery the perfect venue for such a production?

The story book look and feel of this gorgeous location allows the visitor to slip back in time to Jane Austen’s 1813, when Elizabeth Bennet might be the one to greet you, should you walk inside. Or Mr. Darcy. Swoon.

This storybook setting is the ideal backdrop, with its English countryside feel, the whimsical yet welcoming building, draped in lights, with bountiful lawns and ardent sunset-scape make this the perfect place to fall into the romance that still wins hearts of romantics each and every day.

In the 1813 classic novel, Elizabeth Bennet is the product of her generation, and though finding a husband isn’t at the top of her list, her match-making mother will not rest until all five of her daughters are married off…happy or not.

This picturesque sunset scene at Briar Rose Winery enables visitors to truly get into the moment. Come early for a bite, a glass of wine, and stay for the show in under the stars… a magical evening at one of Temecula Wine Country’s hidden gems, Briar Rose Winery.

Austen’s leading ladies are more often than not independent, intelligent, and quick witted, and Elizabeth remains a time honored favorite–especially when this level headed lady loses her heart to the infamous Mr. Darcy.

When Elizabeth Bennet and her Mr. Darcy find love, true love, under the stars, it’s a magical Shakespeare in the Vines moment at Briar Rose Winery. Not to be missed on this the 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice.

Directed by Missie Van Beeber, the scenery is beautiful, paired with the glorious backdrop of Briar Rose. Regency attire is encouraged, though not necessary. Dress to impress on your wine country outing, but be sure and bring your wrap as nights are getting cooler.
