Two words about Old Town Temecula’s Havana Kitchen Restaurant and Coffee House: Sal Latte.

The Havana Kitchen, located on Fifth Street in Old Town Temecula, has perfected this delicious beverage (a Cuban style latte, served with a hint of salt)

They also offer a Cuban classic; the cortadito (an espresso shot sweetened with raw sugar and is also a great pick- me-up). However, The Havana Kitchen is so much more than great coffee; the food is fresh, authentic Cuban cuisine, and delicious!

The cafe is casual; your order is taken at the counter. The staff is very friendly and helpful about answering questions about the menu. They will gladly share their favorite menu items, and they are right on! Everything we had was delicious.

The menu is simple but has something for everyone, with prices ranging from $9 to $6 for menu items. Dishes and bowls, sandwiches, salads, sides and “cravings.”

There is even breakfast served from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The dishes come with black beans, rice, and the best plantains I have ever had. The Havana Chicken is light and flavorful and features a Cuban Creole Sofrito sauce, a reduction of red bell peppers, garlic, onions, wine, olive oil, and tomato purée.

The Ropa Vieja (shredded beef) is a Cuban classic and features juicy slow cooked brisket. For pork lovers, you can’t go wrong with a Cuban sandwich.

Be sure and try the sides; the Beef and Oscar empanadas are flaky and satisfying. The Havana Kitchen’s Yucca fries are a lighter twist on the French fry and did not disappoint. There is not much left to say about the plantains…just eat them.

To end an amazing meal at Havana Kitchen, you must try the Cuban Flan. Traditional or Coconut, both are silky and rich. Coconut flan and a hot Sal Latte is my happy place, and it will probably be yours too.

The Havana Kitchen is perfect for a casual date night, quick dinner with the kids, or just a fast coffee break! There is live music on Saturday nights and it is located in the heart of Old Town. Stop in for great food and great prices Tuesday through Sundays. And every once in awhile… a little dancing!
