Sunday Classics at the Merc — string quartet Quartetto Sorrento to perform Mozart, Schubert, and Juan Crisotomo Arriaga in Old Town Temecula

Many people would say that the string quartet is the quintessential chamber music ensemble. And they’d probably be correct.

And for us, our good friends Quartetto Sorrento are the quintessential string quartet. So, we’re happy to welcome them back to The Merc this Sunday. Quartetto Sorrento consists of:

  • Paula Simmons, viola
  • Mikhail Dvoskin, violin
  • Ondrej Lewitt, violin
  • Heather Vorwerck, cello

Their program opens with Mozart‘s Quartet No. 14, and closes with Schubert‘s quartet. In between, they’ll be performing a quartet by a somewhat lesser known composer, Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga. Some people call Arriaga the “Mozart of Spain.” He was a child prodigy who died too young. And he and Mozart were even born on the same day, though 50 years apart.

Join us this Sunday for chamber music at its finest!
