With clouds and smoke looming, and cirrus level smoke stretching in from Tahquitz peak to the Pacific, firefighters continued to seek an edge over the Mountain Fire. The proximity cloud did not wreak wind and havoc as originally feared, leaving woodland firefighters free to do their work.
According to press release from Inciweb, firefighters constructed fire-line along the ridgeline east of Idyllwild and Pine Cove. Crews also made excellent progress on the southeast side near Trails End on Morris Ranch Road in Garner Valley.
Tonight, moisture is predicted from the East/Southeast and will move across the fire area. Cloud cover may increase through Saturday morning.
Now numbering to 3500, firefighters will focus their efforts overnight on constructing additional containment lines on the southern flank of the fire.
